China Mobile, the world's largest wireless network operator by subscribers, has named a new chairman amid the company's efforts to further expand its 4G network and bolster its fixed-line broadband operations. Shang Bing, a vice-minister at regulator the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology , has replaced Xi Guohua as head of China Mobile, the company said in a statement.

Verizon is doing the unthinkable: Starting Thursday, the nation's largest wireless company will eliminate two-year service contracts, along with the practice of offering discounted phones at prices of $100 or $200. Although this has already been an option with major phone carriers, Verizon joins T-Mobile in dropping contracts and discounted phones entirely for new customers.
