RAL Space is involved in all aspects of the design, manufacture, assembly and test of hardware and software for spacebased and groundbased scientific instruments. An important support activity for this work is the Product Assurance function, provided by the RAL Space Product Assurance Group which is looking to recruit several Product Assurance Specialists. The group provides two linked services to RAL Space running the departments ISO9001certified Quality Management System, and providing Product Assurance support to projects and Product Assurance Specialists would be expected to contribute in both areas. About The Role We have vacancies for Product Assurance Specialists to work within the RAL Space Product Assurance Group. Project Assurance Specialists would support the Quality Management System by carrying out internal audits, writing and maintaining documented procedures, helping develop departmental policy, and training department staff in aspects of quality management. You would also be expected to act as Product Assurance Manager for a portfolio of projects, serving as the principal point of contact with customers and space agencies for all product assurance matters. This would include responsibility for writing the Product Assurance Plan then ensuring that the activities it prescribes are followed, including material and process control, conformance control, incoming and outgoing inspection, supporting and auditing suppliers, and preparing End Item Data Packages to accompany delivered items. You should be capable of thorough and conscientious work to tight deadlines across multiple projects simultaneously, adapting to changing priorities as the need arose. The role may require occasional travel on an adhoc basis, occasionally with overnight stays, and possession of a full UK driving license is desirable. You will be appointed at either Band D or Band E of STFCs staffing hierarchy, depending upon the strength of your skills, experience and qualifications. About You You will be qualified to Foundation Degree QCFFHEQ Level 5 to be considered for Product Assurance Specialist or BSc QCFFHEQ Level 6 to be considered for Senior Product Assurance Specialist or higher qualification in a STEM subject degree level in a relevant science or engineering discipline, with further qualifications and chartered status desirable. The discipline of Product Assurance frequently requires negotiation to determine the best course of action, so effective oral and written communication skills are essential when dealing with managers, engineers and scientists both within RAL Space and with representatives of the space agencies, customers and suppliers. You should have a background in some branch of engineering mechanical, thermal, optical, electronics or software. Knowledge and experience of space applications will be advantageous.
