Cisco ramps up cloud computing efforts

The networking equipment manufacturer Cisco is expanding its worldwide network of interconnected clouds by investing $1-billion and adding international partners, the company announced on Monday. Deutsche Telekom, British Telecom , Japanese system integration company NTT DATA and US data centre provider Equinix among others have joined Cisco by linking hundreds of data centres and cloud providers around the world in a network with more than 30 partners.

(Telecompaper) Cisco has announced that more than 30 additional companies, including Deutsche Telekom, BT, NTT Data and Equinix, have added their support to Intercloud, the global network of interconnected clouds, that Cisco and its partners are developing to enable a new generation of standardised cloud applications and the proliferation of highly secure hybrid clouds. According to Re/Code, Cisco will invest USD 1 billion into its cloud offerings over the next two years.
