JOB DESCRIPTION Responsibilities Duties Tasks POST Earth Observation Application Support Engineer in the ESA Climate Office, Science, Applications and Future Technologies Department, Directorate of Earth Observation Programmes. DUTIES The postholder will report to the Head of the ESA Climate Office and will be leading the management of activities related to climate datainformation quality assurance in relation to the climate data products, standards, algorithm validation and long term preservation. Other responsibilities include The definition of the CCI Data Access needs, both FCDRs and ECVs, in terms of Services Coordinated Interface, CoreInfrastructure, Analysis and Reporting, and Quality Control. The analysis, definition, initiation and management of industrial activities, associated to the Distribution of the Earth Observation data from the GMECV programme and the Climate Scientific User Community. Acquire, archive, document and make available in CMIP5 CCI products. This includes maintaining both the standards and protocols, filenaming conventions, data formats etc already agreed between the CCI teams and the development of CFsatellite conventions. Definition and development of the CCI Data Portal, a dedicated web portal setup to provide a single point of access for all CCI data products. Definition and development of the CCI Tool Box, incorporating generic functions applicable to all ECV data products will be implemented, in order to simplify analysis of multiple ECVs in parallel. Support the development of climate services, especially international and intergovernmental public sector markets, including climate data visualisation. Qualifications Applicants should have a university degree or equivalent qualification in physics, engineering or a relevant Earth sciences discipline. Required knowledge This post requires extensive professional experience on product definition, calibration, validation, algorithm development, quality assessment and exploitation of Earth Observation data, particularly ESA missions an established profile of dialoguing the with EO research communities in disciplines relevant for climate. Applicants should be strongly selfmotivated, resultsoriented, possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and be able to work effectively within ESA teams and in internationalcooperation.
