Senior Satellite Operations Engineer

For our activities in EUMETSAT, we are currently looking for a Satellite Operations Engineer to ensure support for the activities mainly related to Sentinel3 Satellite Flight Operations within the Flight Operations Division. Tasks and Responsibilities The key person shall be integrated into the Sentinel3 Spacecraft Operations Team, led by the Copernicus Sentinel3 Spacecraft Operations Manager, within the Flight Operations Division of the Operations and User Services Department. The tasks of the key person will be carried out at EUMETSAT facilities in Darmstadt but occasional travel within Europe may be necessary. The key person shall be primarily assigned to one of the following Satellite system operations SSOE, covering all satellite and system FOSPDGS components aspects related to operations engineering for the platform, payload and instrument data handling, instrument parameter and OBSW maintenance, as well as FDIR and OPS security aspects for the management of encryption and authentication functions Satellite platform operations PSOE, covering all satellite and system FOS components aspects related to the operation engineering for PowerThermal, propulsion and AOCSDORISGNSS, TT C, TXA and data handling subsystem Satellite instruments operations ISOE, covering all satellite and system FOSPDGS components aspects related to the operation engineering for OLCI, MWR, SRAL, SLSTR, DORIS and GNSS instruments. The key person shall be trained to provide operations expertise and support to further platform subsystems and or payload instruments, depending on his or her experience and the overall team needs. Eventually, each position should be able to ensure the backup of any of the 3 positions, to ensure routine operations and the first recovery actions. The key person shall also participate in coordinating the satellite operations activities of other team members and external teams responsible for onboard software management, simulator support, mission control, mission planning, flight dynamics and ground stations. Furthermore, the key person shall support system and operations preparation activities for Sentinel3B and for the recurrent mission with respect to their related activities.The key person shall be required to support operations during normal working hours, as well as support the oncall operations engineer rota, such that safe and efficient operations are ensured by the Spacecraft Operations Team on a 247 basis. Requirements Essentials In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the Key person shall have a demonstrated experience in at least two of the following mandatory skills Experience of at least 5 years of Spacecraft Operations on Low Earth Orbit LEO, 3 axis stabilised spacecraft with responsibility for one or more platform subsystems or instruments during operational validation, commissioning or routine operations phases Experience of at least 3 years of SCOS2000 mission control system and use of the MOIS operations preparation tool Demonstrated experience in satellite performance monitoring and reporting aspects including anomaly analysis and solving in liaison with satellite industry, procedure change control and configuration management processes Experience in the operation or development of satellite ground segment facilities, in particular procedure development, monitor and control, mission planning, onboard. Desirables Furthermore, it would be a distinct advantage for the Key person to have experience with some of the following Specification of system and operational concepts, facility requirements Familiarity with OnBoard Control Procedure and OnBoard Position Scheduler concepts Familiarity with the ECSS Packet Utilisation Standard, customisation and usage Familiarity with system change control and configuration management procedures Data analysis software packages such as MATLAB File parsing languages such as PERL, A WK Use ofVBA for development of adhoc tools in MS Office applications.
