For our activities in ESOC, we are currently looking for a Mission Control System Engineer. Main responsibilities You will be responsible for Data Systems Operations Engineering, covering the areas of the following two Mission Data Systems MDS Sentinels Mission Control Systems Engineering support Sentinels Simulators Engineering support. Initially the tasks will be fully dedicated to the Sentinels MCS Engineering support, however it should not be excluded that at a later stage tasks related to the Sentinels Simulators Engineering support may be included. For both of these Mission data systems, the responsibilities include Specification of the software requirements of these systems in collaboration with the operational users Definition and specification of their internal and external interfaces in agreement with the relevant parties Acceptance of the deliverables received from industry, ensuring correctness, completeness and compliance to the applicable requirements Ensuring support to the mission operations staff as required in the various operational phases, including System Validation Tests, simulation campaign and in software support coordination as part of the Flight Control Team during critical operational phases such as launches Coordination with other internal ESOC or external units, e.g. with the unit supplying mission data systems infrastructure and with the unit supplying the ICT systems and services Participation in research and development activities in the area of mission data systems Participation in the testing and validation of the various infrastructure elements used by the Sentinels MDS as well as definition of the future evolution of these systems Collaboration with other missions to ensure crossmission consistency and harmonization between Sentinel and other missions MDS systems, spinin from other missions into the Sentinel MDS and spinout from the Sentinel system to future systems including, but not limited to, future Sentinel missions The tasks to be performed require considerable initiative, flexibility and independence in executing the assigned tasks. Ideal candidate Requirements You should have a good knowledge of Mission Control Systems for Earth Observation satellites and the EO MCS Kernel. Additionally, you should have experience as Software Support for Earth Observation Missions including prelaunch activities and launch campaigns of satellites. Furthermore, you should be familiar with MICONYS and have in particular extensive knowledge in the operational deployment of external systems EDDS, GFTS, DARC. Additionally, you should bring the following Ability to understand and accurately predict behaviour of complex systems Ability to prioritise and manage several activities in parallel Familiarity with programming scripting languages e.g. C, Java, JavaScript, shell scripting Capability to interact with users in a customer oriented manner. This include 1st and 2nd line support Experience in working with operational missions, and in particular, previous experience with Copernicus Sentinels missions Experience with the ESOC working environment including Procedures and Quality Management System QMS The ESOC MOIIT services e.g. ESOC operational networks, baselines etc. The ESOC SDE environment including the production and execution of Acceptance Test Plans. The working language for the position is English and therefore you must be able to work effectively in this language. It would be a distinct advantage for you to bring Experience in software system design methodologies Familiarity with effective teamwork principles and team building aspects A proactive attitude towards problem solving and the ability to achieve solutions as required.
