Job Description We are looking for a PDGS engineer to support our customer, ESRIN. This activity is intended to support the FLEX PDGS subsystems Technical Officer for the procurement of the subsystems dedicated to the PDGS Data Processing chain, including the processing orchestrator and the Level 0 and OrbitAttitude processors. The support is intended to be provided from phase CD to phase E1 and possibly during phase E2. The scope of support includes PDGS SubSystems specification development integration and validation into the PDGS evolutions during phase E2 Activities will include but not be limited to Contribution to PDGS subsystems management documentation Plans, SoW, Reports, etc. Contribution to PDGS design documents PDGS SubSystems Requirements Documents Contribution to PDGS Integration, validation and commissioning documentation Contribution to preparation of PDGS subsystems operational documentation Technical notes, Minutes of Meetings, reports, review item discrepancies and problem reports within the scope of the work package Testing specifications for the integration and validation of the relevant facilities Adhoc developed tools More specifically, the associated tasks for each phase include During phase CDE1 Management Support to the PDGS subsystems technical officers for Preparation of the PDGS subsystems managerial documentation e.g., implementation plan Preparation of the PDGS subsystems contractual documentation e.g., SoWs Coordination of industries in charge of PDGS subsystems development Coordination of PDGS subsystems reviews Preparation of the PDGS SubSystems requirements documents Support to PDGS specification for the part relevant to the PDGS data processing subsystems implementation e.g., Interface Control Documents Support the acceptance by the PDGS Project of PDGS external CFIs Review of documentation from various sources ESA, Industry during the project phases dealing with subsystems implementation and testing. Participation to Ground Segment Reviews and PDGS reviews organized either by ESA or by Industry Management of the review item discrepancies, system or software problem reports and action linked to PDGS SubSystems implementation contracts Generation of technical notes whenever needed during the relevant project phases Operations of the various supporting tools for the part relevant to the PDGS subsystems implementation e.g., Documentation Management System Support to the PDGS Integration and Validation and Ground Segment Validation phases addressing for the relevant PDGS subsystems Integration of the facility within the PDGS Definition of integration and validation tests Run of integration and validation tests procedures Test results analysis Test reporting Support for operators training and preparation of operational documentation for the relevant PDGS subsystems Support for definition and documentation of the PDGS Commissioning Implementation Plan and procedures for the relevant PDGS subsystems Support for the preparation of the launch and the implementation of rehearsal activities for the relevant PDGS subsystems Support for the management of PDGS Operations, system behaviour monitoring and reporting during commissioning for the relevant PDGS subsystems Adhoc development of tools for the accomplishment of the PDGS subsystems engineering, testing and validation, etc. During phase E2 Support for the subsystems impact analysis of new PDGS requirements deriving from new user needs andor new operational needs Support to the PDGS subsystems specification evolution Coordination of industry in charge of PDGS subsystems evolution and maintenance Generation of technical notes whenever needed during the mission lifetime Required Skills and Experience University degree or equivalent qualification, preferably in engineering or Remote Sensing System Technical Specification Operational Requirements specification Complex system architecture definition and implementation Definition and Implementation of operational concepts System Validation and Verification Operational Validation and Qualification Good knowledge of relevant applicable ESA policies, standards and processes Communications skills e.g., for presentations to an international audience Capacity to generate good quality documentation Knowledge of Data Processing systems for Earth Observation data Programming skills Shell scripting Desirable Skills and Experience Project Management Agile process SCRUM Good knowledge of ESA and TPM operational missions onscope, including PDGS overall architecture, data products and processing model and operational context e.g., relationship with providers and partners Good knowledge of applications and systems in use for common services implementation and LongTerm Data and Knowledge preservation Cloudbased service provisioning both public and private cloud, including cost models Virtualisation technologies and platforms Networking both Local and Wide Area Networks design, implementation and operations ICT security design, implementation, operations and standards Experience in Big Earth Observation Data Initiatives, complex systems, distributed systems, systems of systems, federated systems, clouds, etc. Knowledge of Ground Segment Performance Monitoring systems Programming skills Python Work Location Frascati, Italy Application Deadline 03 February 2022 Start of Work 01 March 2022 or as soon as possible Important Notes Before applying to this position, please read the page How to Apply on the Solenix website under Career. The team, located in the ESOC Network Operations Centre, provides support using a variety of computer and network hardware and software. The NOC acts as the first point of contact for users, missionsprojects and second line support teams. As NOC Network Operation Center Technician you will concentrate your activities on the following Liaise with spacecraft and mission operations engineers as well as staff on duty at other support units, ground stations and external Agencies to establish and continuously maintain a comprehensive overview on the availability of and the demand for utilization of resources provided by the ground segment facilities. Supervise and coordinate scheduled support activities. Monitor the progress of station configurations for satellite passes through voice coordination or remote monitoring systems. Schedule Ground Stations and OCC facilities in realtime outside normal working hours.Configure and monitor station configurations for satellite passes as well as data transmissions and performance. Respond immediately to any anomaly affecting operations relevant procedures shall be initiated and 1st line maintenance activities executed as required in order to restore operations. Document and track anomalies, call out 2nd3rd party supportescalate and followup on incident resolution. Reporting and documentation. Act as first line of contact for users of critical systems. Provide 1st line computer and network support to all eligible users including incident, problem, change request and user requestcomplaints handling. Actively monitor all operational IT systems, applications and networks and react immediately on potential issues or outages by Logging and escalating incident tickets according to procedure Identify the impacted servicesusers and inform all relevant parties Initiate incident resolution or mitigating actions to restore the service asap Call outescalate to 2nd line support or external providers according to procedure Followup on incident resolutionprogress and inform interested parties of the status Prioritise work according to criticality of systems, schedules and targets. Position Reference 1176 We are looking for a Sentinel Satellites Operations Engineer to work in Darmstadt, Germany. The key individual support the Copernicus Operations Preparation Manager within the Copernicus Mission Development CMD division of the Programme preparation and Development PRD department, working on various phases of new missions. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Preparing for and executing all relevant Copernicus Sentinel routine operations in a SCOS2000 environment, as well as preparing for the recurrent satellite handover activities. Performing the maintenance, validation and documentation of the space segment assets update. Interfacing with all other flight operations teams such as the MCS, mission planning, FDF, but also with external operational entities or services. Operating all satellite and FOSPDGSPDAB component aspects related to operations engineering for the platform, payload and instrument, including data handling, instrument parameter, OBSW maintenance, as well as FDIR and OPS security aspects. Planning and scheduling the satellite operations in coordination with the other teams. Continuously monitoring Spacecraft performance and status. Participating in anomaly investigation and resolution. Reporting and analyzing the satellite system performance. Proficiency training of the Engineers using the space and ground segment simulators. Ensuring the oncall operations engineer rota, such that safe and efficient operations are ensured by the Spacecraft Operations Team on a 247 basis. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory A bachelors degree or equivalent in a relevant field. Experience in at least two of the following areas Spacecraft Operations on Low Earth Orbit LEO, 3axis stabilized spacecraft with responsibility for one or more platform subsystems or instruments during operational validation, commissioning or routine phases. SCOS2000 mission control system and use of the MOIS operations preparation tool. Satellite performance monitoring and reporting aspects including anomaly analysis and solving in liaison with satellite industry, procedure change control and configuration management processes. The operation or development of satellite ground segment facilities, in particular procedure development, monitor and control, mission planning, onboard software management, performance analysis, configuration management and simulator facilities. The ability to work in an orderly and disciplined manner, whilst remaining calm under pressure. Strong data analysis, processing and synthesis skills. Fluent in English, written and spoken. The following skills would be highly desirable Experience with the specification of space system and operational concepts, facility requirements. Familiarity with OnBoard Control Procedure and OnBoard Position Scheduler concepts. Familiarity with the ECSS Packet Utilisation Standard, customization and usage. Familiarity with system change control and configuration management procedures. Experience with data analysis software packages such as MATLAB. Experience with file parsing languages such as PERL and AWK. Experience with the use of VBA for development of adhoc tools in MS Office applications.
