There are two investigations into excessive tree and brush removal along the banks of the Coldwater River: One by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality and another by the Intercounty Drain Commission. The DEQ has ordered work along the river in Barry County stopped and issued violations after it appears a contracted company removed more trees from along the river than it was supposed to and dredged part of it.
