Archive and Data Access Engineer EUMETSAT is Europes meteorological satellite agency monitoring the weather and climate from space 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We are currently looking for an Archive and Data Access Engineer, with operational experience of working within the Climate, Meteorological or Oceanographic environments, to join our international team of young and inspiring engineers and industry professionals, tasked with driving innovation within the Space, Satellite and Earth Observation sector. This role is routed in the mission of EUMETSAT and will provide the opportunity to work with leading IT, Space and Earth Observation organisations and domain experts to make a positive impact on society! Background The Data Centre Operations Team supports the archiving and data access services for the permanent storage of EUMETSATs satellite data and the discovery, search and access of this data by the user community. In preparation of EUMETSATs next Generation Geostationary Satellite Programme Meteosat Third Generation, MTG the Archive and Data Access Engineer will play a key role in ensuring the successful and complete routine archiving of data and products from MTG satellites and their access by the users. Duties Specify and evolve a hosted processing service offering and coordinate management approval Conceptually develop, with a wide network of partners, Collaborative Processing Environments in several fields of thematic application of Earth Observation data, Numerical Weather Prediction data, etc. Coordinate and, with first and secondlevel support resources, assist user onboarding to the hosted processing in relevant cloud environments of EUMETSAT and partners Coordinate the availability and provisioning of relevant input datasets on the systems identified in the use cases Report on system performance, usage and the fulfilment of relevant SLAs and KPIs What we offer Excellent salary, of up to Euro 6,500 NET after income tax based on skills and experience Flexible working time including additional flexileave Full medical coverage for employee and family Attractive pension 30 days of annual leave 14.5 days public holidays Training and development support Relocation allowance and support if applicable Qualifications An IT professional with a university degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or another relevant discipline Skills and Experience Minimum two years of recent practical experience in the following Working in Unix Linux environments Scripting Python, Perl, Bash andor Programming Java, C Working with Relational Databases e.g. PostgreSQL Web Service development experience API, XML, JavaScript Knowledge of software engineering, as well as verification and validation test methods Excellent problemsolving skills, a proactive attitude and the ability to work autonomously with a minimum of supervision under high workloads. Experience in the following would be advantageous Handson experience with Earth Observation data and formats e.g. netCDF, HDF, BUFR, GRIB Experience in using XML for the definition of metadata, specification of configuration files, and data format representation Use of automated Software Test Tools for regression testing of new software releases e.g. JUnit, QF Test Languages Candidates must be able to work effectively in English and some knowledge of French is desirable.
