Canada mandates basic TV offer for CAD 25

(Telecompaper) The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) announced that as of 01 March, Canadians can subscribe to an affordable basic TV package costing no more than CAD 25 a month, excluding equipment. Before 01 December, they must also be able to supplement this package with additional channels, either individually or in bundles of up to ten. The affordable package may also include free of charge for OTA TV stations (up to a maximum of ten), stations affiliated with US commercial networks (ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC) and others. Service providers with fewer than 20,000 subscribers are not required to offer the affordable basic package, pick and pay or small bundles.
