EBU supports call for EU-wide net neutrality
2014-10-01 16:00:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and a host of other like-minded stakeholders have written to the European Commission to call on the council of ministers to support EU-wide net neutrality rules in the proposed telecoms single market regulation. In an open letter addressed to EU Member State Ambassadors, the EBU and other signatories described the principle that all internet traffic should be treated equally as "indispensable for innovation and growth, and for the fundamental right to receive and impart information and for investment in next generation broadband." According to the EBU, consumers and citizens across Europe must enjoy "unfettered access to the internet, independently of the content, services and applications they decide to use." The open letter has been signed by 11 associations, including the EBU, European Digital Rights (EDRi), the Centre for Democracy and Technology (CDT), Voice on the Net Coalition (VONEurope), Access and Greenhost.
