Aurora has the opportunity to expand our support to ESA in the domain of Earth Observation where we are currently preferred supplier. Overview The Earth observation data analysis engineer is expected to support projects can be during any phase andor programmes for studies on new concepts. The specific activities may relate to simulations and analysis of observations and products, to Level 1b andor Level 2 product and algorithm aspects and to data analysis for validation and mission performance during phase E of an Earth observation mission. The specific analysis can be related to satellite or dedicated suborbital mission campaign concepts. The contractor shall support the SMOS mission scientist, the SMOS mission manager, and the STSE program manager. The SMOS specific tasks Support the exploitation studies funded through the SMOS project. This includes the contract with ECMWF on data assimilation. Support the preparation of SMOS publications and presentations. Support the implementation of new studies related to the SMOS mission. Support the analysis of SVRT results obtained over oceans and DOMEC. Support future work on the SMOS L2 ocean salinity processor. The STSE specific tasks Support to EOPSM Preparation of SoW and implementation of SMOS Ice II Support to preparation and implementation of SMOS Permafrost CCN SMOS NN 3 month CCN Support to EOPSA Support STSE project preparation and management Preparation of SoW for SMOS Storms followon TO DF Support SOLAS OceanFlux Upwelling follow on activity Support management of relevant oceanSMOS related STSE Pathfinders 23 small feasibilities Support Internal projects Complete SMOS TS diagrams internal project Maintain support to SMOS water cycle internal project Complete SMOS SVR internal project The Changing Earth SciNET Maintain the coordination of projects and activities Support to the preparation of the next call for proposals in collaboration with CCI Prepare new Springer Briefs volume dedicated to the second call. Prepare updated brochure for the three calls Update the web with the project results and the new projects. Specific qualification requirements Senior scientistengineer holding a Masters or PhD in geophysical sciences e.g. oceanography, meteorology, physics, mathematics or engineering. A minimum of 6 years of directly relevant work experience. Strong background in satellite remote sensing using Lband radiometry. This includes handson experience with SMOS L1 and L2 data processing and a good knowledge of the corresponding application areas. Knowledge of and experience with the STSE programme. Good level of autonomy and organizing skills are desired. Technical skills shall include programming and a good knowledge of relevant software packages. Good communication and analytical skills to interface with colleagues within ESA and with external partners and industry are essential. The candidate must be able to work in English and both autonomously and as a part of a team. All applicants must be legally allowed to work in the Netherlands. ie. already have a European passport. Location The work will be performed at the European Space Technology and Research Centre ESTEC at Noordwijk, The Netherlands. Contract The selected candidate will receive good remuneration. Will be registered for both social security and tax in the Netherlands. The standard working hours are 40 per week. There are 12 public holidays and an additional 29 annual days holiday.
