(Telecompaper) Ericsson has agreed to acquire Microsoft's IPTV business Mediaroom. The deal will give Ericsson an over 25 percent share of the IPTV platform market and improve its position in the growing 'TV everywhere' segment, the company said. The transaction is expected to close in the second half of this year. The Mediaroom operations are based in Mountain View, California and employ more than 400 people worldwide. Microsoft's IPTV customers include AT&T, Deutsche Telekom, Beeline and Telefonica, serving 22 million set-top boxes in 11 million subscriber households worldwide. The activities will be incorporated in Ericsson's Business Unit Support Solutions. No financial details were disclosed. Microsoft said it will focus its TV activities in future on its Xbox gaming console.
