U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx announced $2 million FAA grant to South Bend International Airport to reduce emissions and improve air quality by installing a geothermal heating and cooling system at the airport through FAA’s Voluntary Airport Low Emission program. New system will reduce airport’s natural gas operating needs by nearly 4 million cubic feet/year, resulting in estimated emission reductions of more than 140 tons of ozone over 20-year lifespan of system.
