Fairchild Semiconductor CEO Mark Thompson's no comment regarding potential M&A represented, in our view, a very strong comment that the company is likely in play. On Wednesday afternoon Bloomberg reported that Fairchild had hired Goldman Sachs to help pursue a sale of the company, with both Infineon and On Semiconductor as potential suitors.
