Today 2G, 3G, 4G, LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth, Zigbee and the rest all have a basic flaw that halve their potential bandwidth - they have to use multiplexing to carry on a two-way communication. Why? Because the transmitter signal is typically much much louder than the receiver signal, swamping it out and making it nearly impossible for both to use the same band without multiplexing.
