The role SCISYS is looking to cement its positon within the institutional market, as well as move into the commercial sector addressing both telecoms operators and operators of megaconstellations. A Technical Authority will be recruited to provide direction and leadership within the Space division in all aspects of the ground segment. The Division is therefore looking for an ambitious, innovative, technically driven and commercially aware engineer with a proven track record. In addition to supporting our institutional clients we are investing in productising our offering, which the successful candidate will shape, lead and direct. Key Responsibilities Provide direction and leadership to all aspects of application architecture, infrastructure and application design Provide guidance on the selection of IT solutions including software packages for projects. Being able to evaluate the potential impacts on the customer such as license costs, phasing out of legacy systems, training, etc. Select the appropriate design standards, methods and tools and ensure they are applied effectively Take full responsibility for the overall system architecture and when required manage the work of an architecture team Work with business analysts andor elicit business requirements to ensure the technical solution meets the business needs and can be delivered on the chosen architecture Identify the commercial impacts of changes in the analysis and implementation model and evaluate these in conjunction with project management. Ensure that the development team are following the agreed technical architecture and development methodologies. Consolidate the specification and design to facilitate the development of IT systems Assist with presales support, presentations to customers and conferencesworkshops. Lead and shape the technical solutions to be presented within proposals to customers. Define technology roadmaps and input to the shaping of the Divisions strategy Actively contribute to the Divisions Technology Forum and support internal lunchtime seminars Keep abreast of technology and develop new techniques for use in systems architecture Desired skills General Able to provide expert advice in a digestible form to both the company and its customers. Ability to estimate costs and implementation timescales associated with potential solutions. Experience of leading technical teams Excellent customer engagement, communication and presentation skills Proven track record of writing successful proposals Software Engineering Proven track record of designing, estimating and implementing largescale enterprise level applications andor mission critical systems Extensive software development and design experience and proven experience of the software development lifecycle In depth understanding of design and modelling techniques e.g. UML In depth understanding of estimating techniques e.g. Cost, Effort, Risk. An understanding of various development methodologies e.g. Agile, Waterfall, DSDM Familiarity with web application development, integration and testing An understanding of software standards Experience of Quality Assurance and testing Experience of security policies and models Software Architectures In depth knowledge of multitier clientserver architecture Experience of managing requirements and proposing system architectures Technology Knowledge of operating systems e.g. Windows, Linux, mobile Knowledge of XML and related technologies Knowledge of middleware architectures ESB, SOA Understanding of Open Source licensing issues Experience with mission critical systems Domain Knowledge Experience of Ground Segments for institutional or commercial satellites Ground Control Systems covering control, planning, automation, simulation or archiving Ground Mission Systems covering payload data processing, instrument planning or archiving Assembly, Integration and Testing of ground segments Requirements From time to time you will be asked to work on customer sites throughout the UK, Europe and outside the EU, which requires a willingness to travel and work onsite. You must be able to obtain the required security clearances. You must be eligible to work in the UK.
