NREL Finds a New Cellulose Digestion Mechanism by a Fast-Eating Enzyme
2014-01-02 06:00:00| Industrial Newsroom - All News for Today
NREL researchers discovered enzyme from microorganism can digest cellulose at almost twice rate of currently available component cellulase enzyme. Paper reporting this finding, "Revealing Nature's Cellulase Diversity: The Digestion Mechanism of Caldicellulosiruptor bescii CelA," appears in Science. Enzyme could help drive down price of making lignocellulosic fuels, from ethanol to other biofuels, that can be dropped into existing infrastructure.
