(Telecompaper) Over three-quarters (75.2 percent) of Spaniards aged 16 to 35 sent Christmas and New Year greetings via chat apps such as WhatsApp and Line, according to a survey conducted by IPSOS for Spanish MVNO Tuenti Movil. The figure compared with the 12.0 percent of respondents who sent traditional Christmas cards, reflecting how integral smartphones have become to young Spaniards. Just 1.8 percent of respondents sent a greeting via SMS, 2.7 percent via email, while 8.3 percent sent no greeting at all. Among those who used mobile messaging apps to send a digital greeting, around 34.5 percent used a group chat feature, 22.0 percent sent a gif animation and 19.0 percent passed on a meme. In addition, around 78.7 percent of respondents organised Christmas and New Year parties and meetings using a group chat feature on their smartphone.
