She graduated from Fairfax Hall in Virginia in 1965 and earned a degree in English literature from Finch College in New York City. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Spring Grove, a former member of the Junior League in York and a supporter and former board member of various organizations institutions including Lutheran Social Services, Glatfelter Memorial Library and the Spring Grove Area Scholarship Fund.
