SRG welcomes vote to keep broadcast licence fee in No Billag poll, makes commitments

2018-03-05 11:01:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) Swiss voters have rejected the so-called No Billag initiative, with the Swiss in all four language regions voting in a referendum on 04 March against cancelling public radio and TV licence fees. The public broadcaster SRG SSR welcomed the result, as continued financing from licence fees will allow it to provide an independent and well-balanced information service in all four language regions, produce Swiss films, support local music and air Swiss sports events, stated the SRG BoD Chairman Jean Michel Cina in a statement. Thirty-four private radio and TV channels will profit from the referendum result, too, as they also get part of the licence proceeds.
