U.S. Steel to construct $230M electric arc furnace in Alabama

United States Steel Corp. announced Thursday it is moving ahead with plans to construct a $230 million electric arc furnace as its steelmaking facility in Birmingham, Ala. The company had been talking about making the shift from a traditional blast furnace to an EAF for years.
