The Oakland Township Board of Trustees heard a presentation on wellhead protection at their meeting October 28. Kelly Hon, Water Protection Specialist from the Michigan Rural Water Association, and Brant Fisher, Environmental Engineer Specialist from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, gave a presentation on the Michigan Wellhead Protection Program, which assists local communities utilizing groundwater for their local drinking water supply systems in protecting their water source. It minimizes the potential for contamination by identifying and protecting the area that contributes water to area water supply wells and avoids costly groundwater clean-ups.
