Dish's Ergen steps aside as CEO to lead new mobile business

(Telecompaper) Charlie Ergen, the co-founder and owner of US pay-TV provider Dish Network, is stepping down as CEO of the company in order to focus on developing Dish's wireless business. COO Erik Carlson, a 20-year veteran of the company, has been promoted to the role of CEO and will continue to report to Ergen.

Harbinger Capital Partners, the hedge fund firm run by Philip Falcone, filed a new lawsuit accusing satellite TV company Dish Network Corp and its chairman, Charles Ergen, of illegally trying to strip it of control of wireless company LightSquared during its bankruptcy. The lawsuit filed on Tuesday in Manhattan federal court seeks at least $1.5 billion of damages, which Harbinger wants tripled.
