Scandinavian telecom operators Telenor ASA and TeliaSonera AB have dropped plans to merge their Danish operations after failing to agree acceptable terms with the European Commission, the companies said Friday. They originally announced plans to team-up in Denmark, where the combined business would have had revenue of more than 9 billion Danish kroner , at the end of last year as the two operators tried to counter fierce competition in the country which has pressured revenue and profitability and limited investments there.

(Telecompaper) TeliaSonera and Telenor have decided to abandon their plan to merge their operations in Denmark. The operators said in a statement that they were unable to reach agreement with the European Commission on acceptable conditions to meet its competition concerns. The joint venture agreed last December would have reduced Denmark from four to three mobile network operators. TeliaSonera and Telenor said they will continue now with their individual operations in Demark, which are still fully up and running, while reviewing their strategic options in the Danish market.

Hedge funds that invested in Sabine Oil & Gas Corp. will have the bankrupt company's cooperation as they pursue potential lawsuits over its 2014 merger with Forest Oil. U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Shelley Chapman said at a hearing Thursday in Manhattan that such cooperation would help avoid "litigation death by 1,000 cuts."

In letter, Perrigo blasts Mylan executive over rationale for proposed merger

Ireland-based Perrigo Co., under siege by a hostile takeover effort by Mylan, this morning released a letter sent to Mylan executive chairman Robert Coury blasting his rationale for merging the two drug companies. "We are confident in our ability to deliver value well in excess of your offer through our standalone plan and our acquisition strategy," Perrigo CEO Joseph Papa wrote.
