Salt mining on hold at NY site where 17 workers were rescued

Mining operations remain on hold at a central New York salt mine more than a week after 17 workers were rescued from an elevator stuck 900 feet underground. Cargill Inc. spokesman Mark Klein says work continues on the elevator system that broke down late on the night of Jan. 6 as a group of employees was descending to start their overnight shift at the mine in Lansing, on the southern end of Cayuga Lake.

Ireland reveals plans for $948m hydropower project at old mining site
