TOKYO -- Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd.'s Subaru sees sales of 700,000 vehicles in North America as early as in 2017 as it dodges a slump in China. The carmaker may sell more than 600,000 vehicles in North America in 2015, five years ahead of its mid-term plan, Fuji Heavy CEO Yasuyuki Yoshinaga said in an interview at the company's headquarters in Tokyo.

Subaru sees no immediate return to Tianjin port after blast

Subaru maker Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. said today that it will keep diverting car exports from Tianjin to Shanghai for now because its Tianjin operations have yet to return to normal after explosions in the Chinese port city this month. Tianjin is normally the Subaru car maker's biggest entry point in China, but Fuji Heavy diverted its Tianjin-bound cargo to Shanghai last week after explosions at a warehouse storing chemicals in the city on Aug. 12. It said it has decided to do the same for 642 cars set to be shipped for China on Sunday, it said.

Subaru says suppliers have been told to treat workers fairly

Fuji Heavy Industries , the parent company of automaker Subaru, has told its network of suppliers that it expects them to treat workers fairly and to uphold "human rights and international standards of behavior." "Fuji Heavy Industries does not condone the exploitation of any class of worker, either in its own operations or within its supply chain," the company said in a statement released on Friday by its U.S. marketing and sales affiliate, Subaru of America.
