Trucking Companies Rally to Provide Water to Flint Residents

Several trucking companies and large retailers on Jan. 26 announced plans to donate and truck in tens of thousands of bottles of water for residents and school children of Flint, Michigan, to assist the community that is experiencing a drinking water crisis. Jet Express Inc., one of the carriers who initiated a local campaign to help Flint, raised donations of more than 17,000 bottles in the first 24 hours of their effort, said Kevin Burch, president of the Dayton, Ohio-based motor carrier.

Memphis' water utility company, FedEx and city government are donating 12,000 bottles of water to residents of Flint, Michigan, where drinking water has been contaminated by lead. City officials said Tuesday that the water, which is bottled in Memphis, will be sent by FedEx to the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan, a designated collection site.

Walmart, beverage-makers announce water donations for Flint

Walmart and several global beverage-makers have pledged to deliver about 175 truckloads of bottled water to Flint as the Michigan city deals with a public health emergency caused by lead-tainted water. The retail giant, along with Coca-Cola, PepsiCo and Nestle, announced Tuesday the collective donation will include up to 6.5 million bottles of water through December for at least 10,000 schoolchildren.
