Engineer, Spacecraft Subsystem Power Thermal O3b Ref SES0572 Region Europe Location Luxembourg Betzdorf Company SES Category Space Engineering Position Staff Published 20150417 Context O3b Networks is a MEO satellite based network to provide cost effective broadband connectivity to carriers in developing nations. SES provides satellite operations expertise to the O3b constellation through a Service Level Agreement. The Power Thermal Engineer is responsible for the inorbit operations and performance monitoring of the Electrical Power and Thermal subsystems of the O3b satellite constellation. The position will support both the SES Engineering team in Luxembourg and the O3b operations team in Manassas USA. Responsibilities Provide Electrical Power and Thermal expertise to nominal and contingency operations of the O3b constellation Support spacecraft operations and configuration changes, including generating or reviewing Operational Task Orders, configuration validation and direct supervision over critical spacecraft commanding Develop andor validate nominal and contingency procedures and tools Provide oncall support, react to contingencies and cope with high stress situations for the Electrical Power and Thermal subsystem of the satellite constellation per established escalation procedures Proactively monitor the Electrical PowerThermal subsystem to identify degraded performance, anticipate scenarios and take appropriate action. Develop and maintain tools for evaluating and trending health to maximize satellite safety, availability and longevity, including PowerThermal budgets and fleet capacity predicts Provide support to new satellite procurement activities, inorbit testing, and start of service activities as required by O3b Directly interface with O3b in relation to the responsibilities of the subsystem, including insurance and other external requestsreporting Contribute to a continuous effort to more effectively and efficiently manage the satellite inorbit operations, including processes, procedures, monitoring, and Ground Control System improvements. Experience Qualifications A Masters Degree in Engineering, with a specialization that includes electricalelectronics or thermalmechanical engineering is mandatory Have at least 2 years of experience in satellite engineering and operations. Operational experience with LEO or MEO constellations would be considered an advantage Have strong analytical and problemsolving skills Have strong computer software skills with knowledge of at least one programming language.
