Duke Energy plans to dig up, move coal ash from most pits

The country's largest electric company said Tuesday it plans to take the residue of coal burned to generate power from 12 more waste pits at plants in Moncure, Goldsboro, Lumberton and Mooresboro. Most ash would be moved to former open-pit clay mines in Chatham and Lee counties.

Dignitaries dig dirt to mark construction of Bradley Street corporate park

Signaling the start of construction at the corporate park on outer Bradley Street in the town of Pamelia, a dozen dignitaries scooped soil with shovels Thursday morning at the future site of the Honda dealership planned by F.X. Caprara Auto Sales. The groundbreaking ceremony was held by the MRB Group of Watertown, which created Water District 11 and Sewer District 9 on behalf the town of Pamelia for the 88-acre site, owned by Purcell Construction Corp., Watertown.
