USDA Forecasts Increase in 2013 Farm Income

Source: U.S. Department of Agriculture The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Wednesday released a report from USDA’s Economic Research Service projecting an increase in farm income for 2013. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack released the following statement in regard to that report: “This week's forecast of a $6.8 billion increase in net farm income is a testament to the resilience and productivity of U.S. farmers and ranchers, and a further sign of the positive momentum they have achieved over the past five years. read more

USDA Forecasts Record Corn Crop

By P. Scott Shearer, Bockorny Group, Washington, DC The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is projecting this years corn crop to be a record-high 13.8 billion bushels. This would be 28% over last years crop. The forecast estimates 97.4 million acres planted to corn and an estimated corn yield of 154.4 bushels per acre. This would be the third-highest yield on record. However, USDAs estimates were below what was expected by the grain trade. read more

USDA forecasts record U.S. corn and soy, lower prices

Reuters: The U.S. Department of Agriculture on Thursday projected a rebound in U.S. corn and soybean yields in 2013 that, along with high planted acreage, opens the door to record-large crops and for prices to tumble from 2012/13 levels. The USDA forecast the U.S. corn crop at 14.350 billion bushels, up 35 percent on the year, and soybean output at 3.405 billion bushels, up 13 percent. USDA Forecasts Lower Pork Trade

Source: U.S. Department of Agriculture The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Economic Research Service has released its quarterly Outlook for U.S. Agricultural Trade. Fiscal 2013 agricultural exports are forecast at a record $142 billion, down $3.0 billion from the November forecast, but $6.2 billion above final fiscal 2012 exports. The forecast for livestock, poultry and dairy is up $300 million, with greater beef and poultry exports expected to outweigh lower pork shipments. read more
