New methods are improving ocean and climate measurements
2016-06-20 12:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Guardian: I have often said that global warming is really ocean warming. As humans add more heat-trapping gases to the atmosphere, it causes the Earth to gain energy. Almost all of that energy ends up in the oceans. So, if you want to know how fast the Earth is warming, you have to measure how fast the oceans are heating up. Sounds easy enough at first, but when we recognize that the oceans are vast (and deep) we can appreciate the difficulties. How can we get enough measurements, at enough locations, and...

Water departments to change lead-testing methods after investigation
2016-06-02 13:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Guardian: Water departments that use controversial lead-testing practices have told the Guardian they will change their methods after an investigation revealed they were not following environmental guidelines. Most of the water departments involved said they used the testing methods because state governments told them to, federal guidance was not clear, or they had not received any word that practices may underestimate lead content. The investigation into lead testing methods comes after the lead contamination...

Receiver Blocking Analysis Strategies And Methods
2016-06-01 14:56:07| rfglobalnet Home Page
Receiver blocking is when strong RF emissions from unwanted sources interrupt communication channels which reduces receiver circuitry performance and sensitivity. Blocking occurs through preamplifier overload, mixer overload, and ADC overload. Depending on the type of blocking source, the problem can be either intermittent or continuous, and will tend mostly to affect users in the system’s fringe coverage areas. This application note discusses the analysis process of receiver blocking, and the techniques available for its resolution.
