European telecommunications and cable company Altice has agreed to buy New York cable operator Cablevision for $17.7 billion, including debt, according to a person familiar with the matter. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal had not been formally announced.

The surprise $9 billion sale, expected to be announced this week, also includes the Long Island tabloid Newsday and local Channel 12, sources close to the deal said.

Altice agrees sale of Cabovisao, Oni to Apax

(Telecompaper) Altice announced an agreement to sell Portuguese operators Cabovisao and Oni to private equity group Apax France for an undisclosed sum. Altice agreed earlier this year to sell the companies in order to to secure regulatory approval for its acquisition of PT Portugal. In addition to private equity funds, Vodafone Portugal was also reported to be interested in cable operator Cabovisao and business services provider Oni, in order to expand its growing fixed business in Portugal. The sale of Cabovisao and Oni remains subject to approval by the European Commission and Portuguese authorities.
