US raises USD 7.6 billion in auction of 37, 39, 47 GHz bands for 5G

(Telecompaper) The US FCC announced it's completed the auction of the upper 37 GHz, 39 GHz and 47 GHz bands, which started on 10 December 2019. The auction of 5G spectrum attracted total bids of USD 7.56 billion, and bidders won 99.9 percent of the licences on offer.

BIPT looks at extending 2G, 3G licences, allowing private 5G networks

(Telecompaper) Belgian regulator BIPT announced a public consultation on mobile spectrum, including 5G bands and existing 2G and 3G licences. Market parties are invited to comment on the legislative proposals for opening up the 3.4-3.6 GHz band for 5G and allowing private networks in the 3.8-4.2 GHz range. In addition, the regulator is looking at extending the existing 2G and 3G licences beyond the current expiry date of March 2021, due to delays in organising a new auction.

FCC starts auction of 37, 39 GHz band spectrum for 5G services

(Telecompaper) The US Federal Communications Commission has kicked off a new auction of mmWave spectrum for 5G services. Bidding began 10 December on spectrum in the upper 37 GHz, 39 GHz and 47 GHz bands, with a total of 3,400 MHz available for purchase.

(Telecompaper) Qualcomm Technologies announced that its Snapdragon X55 5G Modem-RF System was selected by over 30 global original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) for commercial 5G fixed wireless access (FWA) customer-premises equipment (CPE) device launches starting in 2020. Those working with Qualcomm Technologies include the following OEMs and product providers: Arcadyan, Askey, AVM, Casa Systems, Compal, Cradlepoint, Fibocom, FIH, Franklin, Gemtek, Gongjin, Gosuncn Technology Group, Inseego, LG, Linksys, MeiG, Netgear, Nokia, Oppo, Panasonic Mobile Communications, Quanta, Quectel, Sagemcom, Samsung Electronics, Sharp, Sercomm, Sierra Wireless, Sunsea, Technicolor, Telit, Wewins, Wingtech, WNC, and ZTE.
