Summary An opportunity for an experienced Electronic Engineer with handson experience in the design, engineering and testing of electronic circuits, to work for Telespazio VEGA onsite at ESTEC. Objective To provide support in the handson design and manufacture of electronics as required for to laboratory based validation activities in support of the development of the instrumentation for future space science missions. The majority of the validation activities take place during the assessment and definition phases of the missions. Responsibilities Duties Duties will include but not limited to Design of lownoise analogue and digital electronics as required for the implementation of payload validation activities. This aspect of the work has a particular emphasis on imaging detector readout electronics Manufacturing and test of electronic circuits Supporting electronic system, components and electrooptical sensor characterisations in the sections laboratories Development of firmware and instrument control and readout software The secondary tasks include Supporting the development and maintenance of the technical infrastructure needed to validate payload technologies Generally supporting department activities contributing to the elaboration and implementation of the Science Programme technology development plans Evaluation of proposals in response to calls for missions, participation in reviews, payload expertise in support of system studies Qualifications Experience Master or PhD or equivalent in electronics engineering. Several years of handson academic andor industrial experience in the design, manufacturing, testing and performance analysis of noiseoptimised electronic circuits, preferably in the space domain. Demonstrable expertise in lownoise analogue, highspeed digital techniques and mixedsignal circuits, preferably in the field of image sensors, is mandatory. Handson experience with such electronic designs and relevant PCB CAD and simulation tools. Knowledge of space science instrumentation technology, electrooptical characterisation, cryogenics, andor the design considerations for spacebased payloads would be an asset. Overview The Payload Validation Section is responsible for conducting laboratory based validation activities in support of the development of the instrumentation for future space science missions. The majority of these activities take place during the assessment and definition phases phase AB1. It also provides general support to the Directorates other Departments for specific validation activities, for missions under development phase B2CD or during operations phase E. Specific qualification requirements Academic qualification MSc. in electronics engineering complemented by several years of handson project or industrial experience in the design, engineering, performance analysis and testing of electronic circuits, preferably in the space domain. In particular, expertise in Lownoise analogue, highspeed digital techniques and mixedsignal circuits is mandatory. Handson experience with such electronic designs and relevant CAD and simulation tools is required. Good knowledge of space science instrumentation technology, electrooptical characterisation, cryogenics, and or the design considerations for spacebased payloads would be an asset. Highlymotivated, capable of working independently, creative and have very good problemsolving skills. Given the Service will be provided in a small team, the service support provider should also be flexible and able to multitask. Fluent in the English language spoken and written. Knowledge of another European language is an asset. Legal and Security Requirements All applicants must be legally allowed to work in The Netherlands Applicants are required to provide a copy of their passport and degree certificate. Aurora will validate the Degree with the issuing University and provide evidence to ESA. Prior to issuing a letter of employment the applicant shall provide to Aurora a recent official document declaring that they are of good conduct from the country where currently resident. Location The work will be performed at the European Space Technology and Research Centre ESTEC at Noordwijk, The Netherlands. Contract The selected candidate will receive good remuneration in line withESA Job Class. Will be registered for both social security and tax in the Netherlands. The standard working hours are 40 per week. There are 12 public holidays and an additional 30 annual days holiday.
