Carbon price vital for zero-emission goal: World Bank
2015-05-11 22:39:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Agence France-Presse: Safely reaching the UN's climate target requires governments to have a long-term vision that includes carbon pricing, the World Bank said Monday. A price on carbon dioxide (CO2), the principal greenhouse gas, "is an efficient way to raise revenue while encouraging lower emissions," the Bank said. The report, "Decarbonizing Development: Three Steps to a Zero Carbon Future," suggests three essentials for curbing emissions of global-warming gases. United Nations members have set the goal of...
California Gov. Brown toughens climate change goal

Desert Sun: Gov. Jerry Brown has been busy of late pushing California forward on a number of environmental fronts. The governor -- who began his new term challenging the state to ramp up to where it gets 50 percent of its electricity from renewable sources in the next 15 years -- preempted Wednesdays adoption of rules for his drought-response mandate with another initiative in recent days related to climate change. Hawaii sets goal 100% renewables 2045
2015-05-09 16:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Climate Central: Hawaii is on the verge of being the first state in the U.S. to set a goal of generating all of its electricity from renewable energy sources. Under a bill the Hawaii Legislature passed this week, 100 percent of the state's electricity would be generated with renewables by 2045. If Gov. David Ige approves the measure -- he has until the end of June to sign it -- it will put the state's climate goals far ahead any other, and extend Hawaii's Clean Energy Initiative through mid-century. The initiative...

Paris climate summit: Carbon pledges to fall short of warming goal, Stern warns
2015-05-04 09:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Sydney Morning Herald: This year's Paris climate summit will leave the world on course for dangerous climate change unless nations offer much deeper carbon emissions cuts than already pledged or signalled, according to researchers including the UK's Lord Nicholas Stern. Based on commitments made by the European Union, the US and China which together account for almost half of global emissions the December summit will end limiting annual pollution to 55-57 gigatonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent by 2030, a study...
