John Busterud, former GOP assemblyman from S.F., dies

John Busterud, a former state assemblyman and chairman of the President's Council on Environmental Quality , held office in a different time, when San Francisco elected Republicans and being associated with President Richard Nixon was not the political kiss of death. Born in Coos Bay, Ore., on March 7, 1921, Mr. Busterud graduated with honors from the University of Oregon in 1943.
