MIT launches Innovation Node in Hong Kong

2015-11-09 12:03:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) MIT has launched an "Innovation Node" in Hong Kong, a collaborative space that aims to connect the MIT community to resources, including advanced manufacturing capabilities, and other opportunities in Hong Kong and the neighbouring Pearl River Delta (PRD). The MIT Hong Kong Innovation Node will launch next summer, bringing in MIT students, faculty, and researchers to work on various entrepreneurial and research projects alongside Hong Kong students and faculty, MIT alumni, entrepreneurs, and businesses. By combining resources and talent, the Innovation Node aims to help students learn how to move ideas more rapidly from lab to market. Other new activities enabled through the Innovation Node will include increased opportunities for MIT students to conduct research in collaboration with Hong Kong universities, events focused on innovation and entrepreneurship, internships at companies in the region; and the formation of a makerspace and startup programme for student entrepreneurs.

MIT presents tech for detecting humans behind walls

2015-10-30 09:41:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) A team of researchers at MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab (CSAIL) created a new wireless technology called RF Capture that detects wireless reflections off the human body to see the silhouette of humans standing behind walls, according to MIT News. To be presented in a paper accepted to the Siggraph Asia conference taking place in November, the technology can be used by firefighters to check if there are survivors inside a burning building or by mothers who want to monitor their baby's breathing, for instance. It can also be used in smarthomes and for virtual reality applications and Hollywood productions.

MIT Machine Does Big Data Analysis the Human Way

2015-10-21 00:23:54| TechNewsWorld

Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology last week announced they had developed an algorithmic system to analyze big data that eventually might replace humans. The system, called the "Data Science Machine," designs the feature set and searches for patterns in big data. The DSM's first prototype was 96 percent as accurate as the winning submission by a human team in one competition to find predictive patterns in unfamiliar data sets.
