Weatherford International Plc plans to lay off an additional 6,000 workers, about 15 percent of its workforce, over the first half of this year to cope with the worst crude market downturn in 30 years. The latest round of cuts brings to 20,000 the number of people who have been or will be let go by the world's fourth- largest oilfield services supplier as oil prices tumbled by more than two thirds.

Weatherford ups job cuts amid second quarter loss

In the company's second-quarter earnings report released on July 22 , Weatherford announced that it will boost cuts from 10,000 to 11,000 employees. Weatherford has completed "substantially all" of the 10,000 cuts that were expected to end at the close of the second quarter, according to the company's quarterly earnings report.
