EPA is announcing availability of $4 million in grant funding to establish clean diesel projects aimed at reducing emissions from marine and inland water ports, many of which are in areas that face environmental justice challenges. Available under Diesel Emission Reduction Act Program, grant competition is the first to focus solely on reducing emissions at ports. DERA funds are used to clean up legacy fleet of diesel engines that were produced before more recent environmental standards. Washington Post: Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Gina McCarthy embarked on her first international trip this week, visiting China to talk about collaborating with that country to combat air pollution and climate change. Marathon EPA Hearing on RFS Proposal

By P. Scott Shearer, Bockorny Group, Washington, DC The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) held a marathon all-day public hearing last week on EPAs proposed renewable fuels mandate. Over 140 individuals testified on EPAs proposal released last month which would lower the requirements for renewable fuels blended in gasoline for 2014 from 18.15 billion gallons specified in the 2007 renewable fuel standard (RFS) legislation to 15.21 billion gallons. The proposal also cuts the corn ethanol requirements from 14.4 billion gallons to just over 13.0 billion gallons which is lower than the 13.8 billion gallons requirement for this year. read more
