Global Effort to Combat Climate Change May Not End in Paris Next Year
2014-01-15 10:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
ClimateWire: It's been more than four years since leaders tried and failed to craft a binding new global climate change treaty in Copenhagen, and as nations head toward a new deal in 2015, the aftershocks of that Danish summit continue to reverberate. From climate campaigners to high-level diplomats, those who are committed to fighting global warming say making a strong agreement in Paris next year that radically reduces levels of greenhouse gas emissions is critical. But, they argue, it's not the last step...
Court strikes down Net neutrality: What's next?
2014-01-14 23:39:35| InfoWorld: Top News
The U.S. Federal Communications Commission and its allies have several options, with most of them difficult, after a U.S. appeals court struck down most of the agency's 2010 Net neutrality rules. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit ruled today that the FCC did not have the authority to prohibit broadband and mobile service providers from selectively blocking or slowing Web traffic and applications.
Super Mario World speedrun hack takes up up down down left right left right B A to the next level
2014-01-14 15:47:45| Extremetech
Over the last week, Awesome Games Done Quick 2014 has raised over $1 million for charity by live streaming some of the world's best video game speedruns. While most of these speedruns were performed live and unassisted by dexterously gifted gamers, a select few were tool-assisted speedruns, or TAS for short. My favorite, by far, was a TAS by Masterjun that used an exact combination of acrobatic Yoshi moves to exploit Super Mario World on the SNES, allowing him to run arbitrary code that's uploaded to the console via its controller ports. Within moments of the "total control" exploit being executed, Super Mario World is replaced by a game of Pong that uses Mario's head as a ball. At this point, you should really watch the video below.
Cane Farmers and B.S.I. meetwill there be a crop season next week?
2014-01-09 07:11:34| Sugar Industry News
Tonight there is a development up north where the sugar industry has been at a standstill. And there is light at the end of the sugar-cane crop tunnel, as both B.S.I. and the BSCFA have compromised, if only tentatively, on a way forward. Both parties met today in Orange Walk, and the BSCFA presented as a matter of priority an interim agreement. Not surprisingly, the first point on that agreement is the issue of payment for bagasse. B.S.I., again not surprisingly, balked, stating that majority shareholders ASR would not accept the point as it is written, and there would have to be modifications. So that\'s where it all restson those modifications. If all goes well, the agreement would be signed by Monday and the crop season could get underway by Thursday. The clock is ticking and time is running out and both parties are hopeful that the interim agreement paves the way for a crop season to start next week. B.S.I.\'s Belizario Carballo says that B.S.I. has promised the revised interim agreement by this Thursday.
