Manny Moe & Jack, a U.S. auto parts retailer, said billionaire investor Carl Icahn had raised his offer to buy the company, topping Bridgestone Corp's offer of $15.50 per share. Pep Boys said its board had determined that Icahn Enterprises LP's offer of $16.50 per share in cash was superior to that of Bridgestone Corp's latest offer.

Boston Consumers' Checkbook released Thursday its rankings for price and quality at Boston-area supermarkets. While Checkbook doesn't reveal the supermarket with the best overall price and quality, the magazine's executive editor, Kevin Brasler, said Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. , the Rochester, N.Y.-based chain that opened its first Massachusetts location in Newton in 2014, is the top supermarket overall.

FedEx Profit Tops Expectations

FedEx Corp. said profit rose 4.2% in its latest quarter, with adjusted profit topping Wall Street's expectations, and the company reaffirmed its full-year earnings guidance. The delivery company said its results were driven by "better revenue quality, e-commerce growth and the successful ongoing execution of our profit-improvement initiatives."
