President Barack Obama canceled a campaign trip at the last minute to stay in Washington and spearhead a more aggressive national response after Ebola infected two nurses and frightened Americans with the prospect that their health system is not equipped to handle a catastrophic medical event. Ten experts from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention -- supported 24/7 by the CDC's full Emergency Operations Center and Ebola experts in CDC's Atlanta headquarters -- have arrived in Texas and are working closely with Texas state and local health departments to investigate the first Ebola case in the United States. Nine members of the CDC team arrived last night and one arrived Oct. 1, 2014.

Bridgestone donates $1 million for Ebola response

The Bridgestone Group has announced it will make a $1 million donation to help fight the ongoing Ebola outbreak in West Africa. Nashville-based Bridgestone Americas will give Samaritan's Purse $500,000 for work in Liberia, while the Tokyo-based Bridgestone Corp. will donate $500,000 to support UNICEF's efforts in Liberia and Nigeria, according to a news release.
