Nebraska oil commission praised, panned at hearing

Opponents have renewed calls for eliminating the agency that regulates Nebraska's oil and gas industry, saying its decision on an oil production wastewater site posed a reckless threat to groundwater. But at the same hearing in Sidney where the criticism was heard Tuesday, backers of the Nebraska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission said it is recognized across the nation as a staunch defender of groundwater.

UPDATE 1-Tyson Foods wins reversal of damages in Nebraska wage lawsuits

Tyson Foods Inc, one of the world's largest meat processors, on Wednesday won the reversal of nearly $24 million of damage awards in two class action lawsuits claiming it cheated thousands of hourly workers in two Nebraska plants out of wages. The 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in St. Louis overturned an $18.77 million award to workers at a Madison, Nebraska pork processing plant after a non-jury trial.

Nebraska trial set over land seizures for oil pipeline

A judge has scheduled an Oct. 19 trial date on a Holt County lawsuit aimed at keeping TransCanada Corp. from seizing land to build the Keystone XL oil pipeline. In January TransCanada filed legal papers in nine Nebraska counties to invoke eminent domain for the land that's needed to construct, operate and maintain the pipeline.
