Imec Presents Ultralow Power RFID Transponder Chip In Thin-Film Transistor Technology On Plastic At IEDM 2014

At this week’s IEDM 2014, held in San Francisco, California, nanoelectronics research center imec demonstrated an ultra-low power RFID transponder chip. Operating at sub 1V voltage and realized in thin-film transistor technology (TFTs) on plastic film, the chip paves the way for universal sensing applications, such as item level RFID tagging, body area networks (BAN) and environmental monitoring, that require prolonged remote autonomy, and ultimate thinness, flexibility and robustness.

Taiwan's TSMC optimistic for 2015, could help China develop chip industry

Taiwan's Morris Chang, the founder of the world's largest contract chipmaker, said on Monday he is upbeat about the global semiconductor outlook for 2015 and that his firm could play a helpful role as China develops its own chip industry. "We expect to be able to play a supportive role in the recent mainland semiconductor plan," the chairman of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co Ltd told a Taiwan-China business conference in Taipei attended by senior Chinese officials.

Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 chip adds LTE Category 9 support

(Telecompaper) Qualcomm has announced that its Snapdragon 810 processor will be able to support LTE Category 9 connectivity, allowing compatible devices to download at top speeds of 450 Mbps, up from the current peak of 300 Mbps. The Snapdragon 810 processor with integrated LTE-A modem demonstrated the speed over three 20MHz LTE carriers, becoming the first Snapdragon processor to support Category 9 carrier aggregation. According to Qualcomm, the increased performance and connectivity will result in faster downloads, quicker application performance and improved power efficiency. The company said it would be shipping the Snapdragon 810 processor in early 2015.
