In a new online survey, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority asks riders how much they care about the ways it tries to communicate. Those who predominantly use the Long Island Rail Road are asked to prioritize their interest in several initiatives, including a system that lets you create apps to track trains, the MTA's own tracking app, and ticket purchasing on computers and cellphones, due in 2019! Finding out what your customers want is wise, but this is bizarre.

Councilmember Vincent Gentile's fight with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority over the R train is showing no signs of slowing down. Gentile, who organized a rally outside the R train station at Fourth Avenue and 77th Street in Bay Ridge on Dec. 11 to protest lousy service on the subway line, is blasting the MTA over its response to his suggestions on how to improve the ride for commuters.

New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli warns that mass transit riders could get stuck holding the bag should the Metropolitan Transportation Authority not receive the $9.8 billion in funding it seeks from the New York City and New York state governments. In his report, released Tuesday, DiNapoli questions whether the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, or MTA, will be able to limit future fare and toll increases to 4 percent when there is a multi-billion gap in its five-year capital program.
