(Telecompaper) The Federal Communications Commission has approved the launch of new satellites by four companies looking to provide broadband servicesi n the US and worldwide. The companies are Space Exploration Holdings (SpaceX), Kepler Communications, Telesat Canada and LeoSat.

FCC starts auction of first 5G high band spectrum

(Telecompaper) The Federal Communications Commission confirmed the start of its first high-band 5G spectrum auction. Bidding starts with the 28 GHz band and then will go to the 24 GHz band, with a total of 1.55 GHz of spectrum available for operators. These are expected to be among the first frequencies used for commercial 5G mobile services and are already being tested by the US's largest mobile operator, Verizon.

FCC approves changes to 3.5 GHz licences, proposes opening up 6 GHz band

(Telecompaper) The Commission established rules in 2015 to facilitate shared access between federal government bodies and other users of the 3.5 GHz band, creating what is known as Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS). It created a three-tiered framework of users consisting of incumbents, Priority Access Licenses (PALs) and General Authorized Access (GAA) users.
