Wolverton: Let's keep up the pressure on the FCC on net neutrality
2015-02-17 16:13:54| Telecom - Topix.net
The expected approval later this month of strong new rules to protect net neutrality is a big victory for consumers, but it's no time to celebrate. The net neutrality proposal, outlined by Federal Communications Commission Chairman Tom Wheeler earlier this month, has some potentially significant holes, and the new rules will only be worthwhile if the agency earnestly enforces them.

2015-02-11 01:56:38| Wireless - Topix.net
Rick Hampton, the wireless communications manager for Boston-based Partners Healthcare , has seen the dialogue among network professionals heating up in the wake of the FCC's sternly-worded enforcement warning about illegal Wi-Fi blocking and says it's no wonder the commission is fired up. He contends that the way in which many organizations have set up their wireless networks, based on overhyped products that have led them to believe anything goes, just won't fly in a world where people increasingly are using personal Wi-Fi hotspots to get safe and easy Internet connectivity over unlicensed airwaves wherever they happen to be.
FCC Chairman Wheeler Outlines Proposal for Net Neutrality Regulations
2015-02-10 21:44:46| Telecom - Topix.net
On Feb. 4, 2015, Federal Communications Commission Chairman Tom Wheeler published an opinion piece on Wired outlining new Net Neutrality regulations coming from the FCC.1 Net Neutrality is a hot button topic, and the Wheeler proposals are a dramatic new development. Ensuring Net Neutrality means adopting policies that prevent Internet Service Providers from blocking or slowing normal commercial content on the Internet or charging access fees to content providers to get "prioritization," that is, faster or better service than competitors for specified content.
