CSX donation helps connect planned Sept. 11 memorial trail

Plans for the September 11th National Memorial Trail are moving forward, with CSX Transportation planning to donate 130 acres to help connect the trail to the Great Allegheny Passage. According to the Cumberland Times-News , the 1,300-mile trail system is expected to connect the World Trade Center site, the Pentagon and the Flight 93 National Memorial.

Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge in West Springfield reopens following derailment of CSX train

WEST SPRINGFIELD &#8212 Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge reopened around 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday after the derailment of a CSX train closed it for a couple hours. Rob Doolittle, spokesman for CSX Transportation, told 22News that five cars derailed on a 99-car train at about 7:50 a.m. No injuries were reported and none of the cars were carrying hazardous materials, according to CSX, which reported the train was heading from Selkirk, New York to Worcester.

Stillwater Veterans Memorial seeking more space

The memorial, which includes a 53-foot steel spire and a Wall of Honor, features space for about 1,345 engraved pavers that "honor and remember veterans of the Stillwater area." To date, 1,314 pavers have been purchased.
