Tuscaloosa officials approve $28M in tax breaks for Mercedes

Tuscaloosa County officials last Thursday approved larger tax breaks for Mercedes-Benz U.S. International to offset expansion costs at the company's Vance-based production facility. The Tuscaloosa County Industrial Development Authority agreed to increase the value of tax abatements for the company to $28.1 million, according to a report from the Associated Press.

The Columbus Economic Development Commission will decide whether commercial real estate on the city's west side can be labeled an economic development target area as a precursor to considering a tax abatement for a car dealer who wants to build a dealership there. The three-member board will meet at 4a p.m. Tuesday at Columbus City Hall council chambers to consider a request from Chevrolet of Columbus.
